Lemminkäinen’s Mother

Our advanced learners (aged around 9 to 12) have been studying myths lately. It was easy to find materials for the Greeks and the Romans – plenty of resources around Zeus and Jupiter – but very little on other mythologies.

This is a story I’ve adapted from several sources about the Finnish hero Lemminkäinen, his quest to find a bride in the northern region of Karelia, and his death and subsequent revival. It’s a pretty dark story, and my kids love it!
