Living overseas for most of my adult life, I have become a master at sourcing English books on the internet that don’t cost a fortune to ship to wherever I am at the time. Many of the resources on this site are based on children’s books which are often not readily available outside of the UK – or if they are, they cost (as in Malaysia) 5% of a teacher’s monthly salary… so, not really an option then.
Here are some of my favourite places to go and spend all my money:
This lovely website ships for free to most countries in the world. The prices are slightly higher than Amazon, usually, but when you factor in Amazon’s exorbitant shipping to places like Malaysia, South Africa, South Korea… in fact, anywhere that isn’t one of Amazon’s base countries, it works out a LOT cheaper.

These beautiful people sell second-hand books online with free shipping anywhere in the world. They also sell new books from other sellers, as well as funding and supporting a number of social enterprises, such as drop boxes, which are sites in the USA where you can drop off your old books – if they’re clean, they’re sold, if they’re not, they’re recycled – and several international literacy programs. The best thing about buying a book on this website is that when you do, they donate a book to someone in need.

Unfortunately this one is only free if you’re in the USA – but if you are lucky enough to live there, these people sell cheap second-hand books. If you live anywhere else, shipping ranges from USD3 to 5 per book
